There were many different weapons used in medieval times. They had all sorts of weapons. These weapons were any thing from long swords, and daggers to longbows and shields. There were also a number of naval and siege weapons made during this time.
Weapons:
Long sword: the long sword was used around the time of around 1350 to around 1555. The long sword was usually held with two hands but could have been held with one. This sword was also used for striking and cutting. This weapon would have been dangerous on the battlefield because if a knight did hold the sword with two hands he would not be able to carry a shield. This would make him more vulnerable.
Longbow: the longbow was a weapon that was invented in the 1200. this was a type of bow that was unlike the Norman because it was a bigger than the Norman bow and it also was a much greater weapon because of the distance it could achieve and the power it had behind the arrows that were shot out of it. The longbow was about the size of the person holding it. The long bow was constructed using a single piece of wood, which made it very easy to make. Some bowyers (the people that shoot the arrows) can make this bow in a few hours. The bow was made in a D-shape so that the shooter could have a longer draw with the bow.
Plate armor: plate armor used to be armor that had many different small plates that had to be pieced together. Then during the time of the middle ages, the knights started to have suits that were a couple of bigger plates with chain mail to cover all of the joints. Throughout the middle ages, they also used helmets and it was not until after the Middle Ages that they invented a neck guard to protect the neck. Plate armor was considered sword-proof and it was strong enough to protect the wearer from spear or pike thrusts.
Naval warfare: Naval warfare was used around the time of the middle ages and has progressed over the years. There were a few battles that used naval warfare. In medieval times naval warfare was considered canon shooting and also hand to hand combat on the decks of ships.
Impacts:
The weapons of the middle ages had many impacts on the people of the past and present day. Some of the weapons impacts were that they killed many of the soldiers in the middle ages. These weapons were also used to win many of the battles in medieval times. In present day, we are to learn from these weapons and we are able to improve those weapons and make new weapons.
Geography: Many different geographic features impacted the weapons of the middle ages. The weapons and plate armor were very heavy which would make long journeys difficult without a horse. Also if there were many mountains on the road of travel it would be difficult just to get the army and its weapons over but just think if the army also had seige weapons.
